Kaizer Chiefs’ lean run continued on Saturday 20 February, as they were held 1-1 by SuperSport United in one of three DStv Premiership matches played across South Africa.
The Amakhosi appeared to be on course for a return to winning form thanks to Reeve Frosler’s first-half strike, but a penalty midway through the second stanza from Bradley Grobler ensured the spoils were shared.
The result extended Chiefs’ winless run in the league to five matches, while second-placed Matsatsantsa’s dropped points served as good news for log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns, who now enjoy a four-point lead and have a game in hand over their nearest chasers.
Elsewhere, Chippa United hosted a league match for the first time November last year (as the Eastern Cape was a Covid-19 hotspot) and were held 1-1 by TS Galaxy.
The Chilli Boys opened the scoring via an Andile Mbenyane penalty, but the Rockets hit back through a spot kick of their own, converted by Lindokuhle Mbatha.
Finally, a Limpopo derby at the Peter Mokaba Stadium saw Baroka FC claim the bragging rights, as they defeated Black Leopards 2-1.
An own goal from Kenneth Nthetheni and a maiden top-flight strike from Joslin Kamatuka saw Bakgaga break a four-game winless streak and move to eighth place on the log, while Lidoda Duvha suffered a fifth straight loss and remain rooted to the bottom of the standings.
The weekend’s league action will be completed on Sunday 21 February, with Tshakhuma TM hosting Stellenbosch and Swallows FC visiting Cape Town City.
