Sunday’s action in South Africa’s DStv Premiership saw Swallows FC continue their unbeaten run since the start of the season, while Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila scored a major win in their battle to avoid relegation.
At the Cape Town Stadium, 10-man Swallows FC played to a fifth successive draw – and extended their unbeaten streak to 16 matches – by holding Cape Town City 1-1. The Birds broke the deadlock through Kgaogelo Sekgota, but were pegged back by a debatable penalty which was nonchalantly converted by Mduduzi Mdantsane.
The Soweto side were reduced to 10 men midway through the second half when defender Junaid Sait was harshly shown a red card by referee Victor Gomes, but they defied the poor officiating to come away with a point which leaves them in third place (six points off the pace of leaders Mamelodi Sundowns) and City in seventh.
At the Peter Mokaba Stadium, Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila registered back-to-back wins for the first time in the DStv Premiership after defeating Stellenbosch FC 1-0.
Vhadau Vha Damani secured a second successive three-point haul thanks to a first-half goal from Thembisani Nevhulamba, with the result putting them six points clear of the relegation zone in 14th. The Maroons, meanwhile, are level with TTM in 13th but have now gone seven league games without a win.
The DStv Premiership will continue with three midweek catch-up fixtures on Tuesday 23 and Wednesday 24 February, headlined by a clash between SuperSport United and Orlando Pirates.
