Zamalek coach Jaime Pacheco has expressed his belief that the Egyptian giants deserved more from their midweek CAF Champions League clash away to Teungueth FC.
The White Knights played out a 0-0 draw at Stade Lat-Dior in Thies, Senegal on Tuesday – a second straight goalless stalemate in Group D following their opening result at home to MC Alger earlier in the month.
The result leaves Zamalek third on the group standings on two points, with Tunisia’s Esperance de Tunis (the Egyptian side’s back-to-back opponents for the next two matchdays) top with four points.
“The match was difficult and we played in a very hot weather, and each team gave everything,” Pacheco said in the wake of the match, as quoted by King Fut.
“Each team wanted to win, but I think that we were better during the two halves of the match. We had many opportunities but they didn’t have any dangerous ones.
“We had many problems during our flight to Senegal, but we performed well during the match.
“We need to keep competing to qualify for the quarterfinals, and we will play to win against Teungueth when we host them in Cairo.”
Zamalek did arrive late in Senegal due to travel difficulties, but were denied by CAF in their request to have the game postponed by 24 hours.
The Cairo club will be away to Esperance in Rades in their next Group D match in the first weekend of March.
