Orlando Pirates boosted their hopes of winning this season’s DStv Premiership title by securing a win over Bloemfontein Celtic on Tuesday evening.

The only goal of the match was netted by Fortune Makaringe in the 62nd minute to hand Pirates a 1-0 victory over Celtic at the Orlando Stadium.

The win took Pirates to third place on the league standings – four points behind leaders, Mamelodi Sundowns, who have three games in hand and Celtic remained 11th on the log.

Meanwhile, SuperSport United dropped points when they succumbed to a 1-0 defeat to AmaZulu FC at the Jonsson Kings Park Stadium.

Siphelele Mthembu was the hero for AmaZulu as he scored the only goal of the game in the 24th minute to inspire Usuthu to a 1-0 victory.

As a result, AmaZulu and SuperSport remained sixth and second respectively on the league standings.

At the Mbombela Stadium, Swallows FC suffered their maiden defeat of the season in the league when they lost 2-1 to TS Galaxy.

Two late goals from Lindokuhle Mbatha and Bevan Fransman earned Galaxy a come-from-behind victory over Swallows, who netted through Ruzaigh Gamidien.

The defeat saw Swallows slip down to fourth place on the table, while Galaxy climbed up to the eighth spot on the log.

Lastly, Thabiso Kutumela’s solitary goal inspired Maritzburg United to a 1-0 victory over Black Leopards at the Harry Gwala Stadium.

The win saw Maritzburg leapfrog Leopards into the 15th spot on the standings as the battle to avoid relegation continues.
