Cape Town City saw their winless run extended and Golden Arrows were held at home, as South Africa’s DStv Premiership wrapped up its midweek action with two matches on Wednesday 3 March.
City have now gone five league games without a win and find themselves in danger of dropping out of the top half of the log after a 0-0 draw away to Chippa United (who themselves are now four without a win) at Sisa Dukashe Stadium in the early kick-off.
This clash continually threatened to burst into life, as both teams created decent scoring chances through the 90 minutes, but ultimately neither was able to draw blood. The result sees the Citizens remain in seventh place on 25 points, while the Chilli Boys are nine points back in 12th.
The early-evening game at Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium between hosts Golden Arrows and Baroka FC also ended with a blank scoreline – and saw the Limpopo visitors record their first clean sheet of the 2020-21 season.
In a match which featured few clear scoring chances, Abafana Bes’thende offered the greater threat in attack, though they rarely called Bakgaga goalkeeper Oscarine Masuluke into significant action. The result sees the Durban side remain in fifth place on 29 points, while the Limpopo visitors are ninth with 21 points.
The DStv Premiership will resume with a slate of six fixtures this coming weekend, 5-7 March, headlined by a derby between Cape Town City and Stellenbosch FC on Saturday afternoon.
