Golden Arrows moved up to fourth on the 2020-21 DStv Premiership standings with a 3-1 win over Black Leopards at Thohoyandou Stadium in one of two matches on Sunday.

Knox Mutizwa, Seth Parusnath and Velemseni Ndwandwe found the back of the net for Abafana Bes’thende following Lifa Hlongwane’s early opener. The result moved Arrows just four points behind league leaders Mamelodi Sundowns who along with Kaizer Chiefs were in Caf Champions League action on Saturday.

Another defeat for Leopards added to their woes. Lidoda Duvha are now four points from safety after both Maritzburg United and Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila were able to conjure a draw in their respective league outings this weekend.

Tshakhuma held Swallows FC to a 1-1 draw at Dobsonville Stadium in Sunday’s other match.

Zephaniah Mbokoma’s first-half opener looked sure to end the Birds’ winless run in the league, but a reckless foul by Phetso Maphanga on Alfred Ndengane gave TTM a chance to level matters from the penalty spot in second-half stoppage time.

Ndengane dusted himself off before sending Virgil Vries the wrong way. As a result, Swallows are now winless in seven matches as they dropped down to fifth.
