Cotonsport beat defending champions RS Berkane 2-0 on a jam-packed day of 2020-21 Caf Confederation Cup group stage action, on Wednesday the 17th of March.
The Cameroon club scored both their goals in the second-half in Garoua to move into second spot in Group B, in a game which should be remembered for a superb quadruple save by Narcisse Nlend to deny the Moroccan’s with the score at 1-0.
Elsewhere, JS Kabylie scored twice in the final eight minutes of regulation time to hold NAPSA Stars 2-2 in Lusaka in what will come as a huge boost for the visiting Algerians in their pursuit of the knockout stages.
In Group A, Tshegofatso Mabasa scored a late winner for Orlando Pirates as they downed Nigeria’s Enyimba 2-1 in Soweto. For the forward the goal served as redemption following his rather unfortunate penalty miss moments earlier, which ended with him on the wet floor and the ball in the empty stands.
Victory was enough to move the Buccaneers top with Al Ahly Benghazi defeating ES Setif 1-0 in neutral Cairo, in a match that produced a red card for either team.
Record three-time champions CS Sfaxien conceded late in a 1-1 draw at Jaraaf in Thies but remain top of Group C following Etoile du Sahel’s surprise 1-0 defeat away to Salitas in Ouagadougou.
In Group D, both Pyramids FC, who lost in last season’s final, and Raja Casablanca recorded a 2-0 win on the road to Namungo and Nkana respectively. The two North African clubs are the only teams that maintain a 100% record in the group stages, having accumulated six points from a possible six available.
