Sudan qualify as Tunisia and Ghana win groups

Sudan, Ghana, Tanzania, Namibia and Tunisia all recorded wins in the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers on Sunday.


Goals from Saifeldin Bakhit and Mohamed Abdel Raman helped Sudan secure a 2-0 win over South Africa in a Group C match and the Falcons of Jediane qualified for next year’s tournament.


As a result, South Africa’s Bafana Bafana failed to qualify for the finals, while Ghana won Group C after thrashing Sao Tome and Principe 3-1 on the same day.


Group J was won by Tunisia as they ended a successful qualifying campaign with a 2-1 victory over Equatorial Guinea, whose consolation goal was netted by Firas Chaouat (own-goal).


Tanzania secured a narrow 1-0 victory Libya in another Group J match with Simon Msuva scoring the only of the encounter.


Lastly, Namibia were inspired to a 2-1 victory over Guinea by a brace from Peter Shalulile, who scored in either half of the Group A game.


CAF decided that a Group A match which was scheduled for Sunday would be forfeited by Chad and awarded as a 3–0 win for Mali due to the disqualification of Chad.
