Cape Town City ended an eight-game win drought in the DStv Premiership, as they defeated SuperSport United 3-0 in one of two matches played in South Africa’s top-flight league on Saturday 10 April.
The afternoon result at Cape Town Stadium was secured by goals from Fagrie Lakay, Mpho Makola and Tashreeq Morris, seeing the Citizens record a first league victory since late January, though they remain in seventh place on the log.
Matsatsantsa, whose coach Kaitano Tembo had his 100th game in charge, drop to fifth on goal difference, with Orlando Pirates rising above them. The Tshwane team has now gone six league games without a win.
The evening game at Ellis Park Stadium in Johannesburg saw Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila give their survival hopes a major boost with a 2-0 away win over TS Galaxy.
Vhadau Vha Damani secured the victory – their first in the league since February – thanks to goals from Brandon Theron and Thabo Rakhale, with the result pushing them out of the relegation playoff zone and up to 14th. Chippa United dropped into the red zone.
As for the Rockets, this result confirms a hat-trick of league defeats and sees them remain in eighth place on the log, though nearest chasers Kaizer Chiefs are just two points behind and now have two games in hand.
The DStv Premiership will continue on Sunday 11 April with two matches: Golden Arrows will host Bloemfontein Celtic in Durban, and Black Leopards will visit Swallows FC in Soweto.
