Celta Vigo’s Ghanaian defender Joseph Aidoo has spoken of the club’s ambition after a solid showing in La Liga thus far in the 2020-21 season.
Los Celestes are placed 10th on the Spanish top flight log after 30 rounds and they are chasing a spot in either the UEFA Europa League or the new UEFA Europa Conference League for next term.
“Currently, we are still striving hard to be up there. Next season we will be playing in the Europa League. That’s the target we have set for each other,” Aidoo told Joy Sports.
Celta have shown a huge improvement compared to last season, when they fought down to the final day of the campaign to avoid relegation from La Liga.
“I think it’s one of those things because we played really good [last season] but the goals were not coming. This season things have changed because we are still playing good and this time, the goals are coming in,” Aidoo explained.
The 25-year-old adds that he hopes to follow in the footsteps of Ghanaian legend Sammy Kuffour.
“I think I will be playing for Bayern Munich in future and he has been there,” explained the Black Stars centre-back.
“And that is why I am always looking up to him and he has made a good impact on the football world.
“When I was a kid, Bayern was the club that touched my heart and that is why I admire them.
“I do watch their [Bayern Munich] games and even sometimes I go to their website to watch some clips and stuff.”
Aidoo and Celta will next be in action on Sunday 22 April when they face Cadiz away from home.
