Aston Villa winger Mahmoud Hassan is set to miss the rest of the 2020-21 Premier League season after sustaining a knee surgery that requires surgery, the club announced this week.

Hassan, who is more commonly known as Trezeguet, suffered ligament damage in the club’s 2-1 loss at Liverpool last weekend.

“Trezeguet will now have an operation before starting his rehabilitation,” the club said in a statement. “Everyone at Aston Villa wishes Trez a full and speedy recovery.”

The 26-year-old scored twice in a 3-1 win over Fulham after the international break with the brace having ended his goal drought for the season, but Trezeguet is unlikely to add to his tally for the campaign with the injury feared to rule him out of action for the next few months.

Hassan could miss Egypt’s entire 2022 Fifa World Cup qualifying campaign as a result. The Pharaohs have been drawn in Group F alongside Angola, Gabon and Libya.
