Ajax coach Erik ten Hag says Ghanaian forward Mohammed Kudus needs more time to regain his best form after recovering from a knee injury.
The 20-year-old enjoyed a great start to his career in Amsterdam following a move from Denmark’s Nordsjaelland, but a meniscus injury suffered in a UEFA Champions League clash against Liverpool last October brought his momentum to a screeching halt.
He has been unable to replicate his blistering form since, and struggled to assert himself in Ajax’s UEFA Europa League exit at the hands of Roma last week.
The Black Stars player has two goals and three assists from 12 Eredivisie appearances this season, with ten Hag backing him to roar back to form once he has some more playing time under his belt.
“You really shouldn’t underestimate the injury he had,” explained the Ajax boss, as quoted by Ghana Soccernet.
Ten Hag added, “You can clearly see his potential, but he needs time to come back. We have to trust him and give him credit because we know he can do it. Then it [his form] will come back very soon.”
Kudus, despite his lack of club form, nonetheless played a key role in helping Ghana secure qualification for the Africa Cup of Nations finals, scoring in their draw away to South Africa last month.
