Tanzanian heavyweights Simba SC have slapped a $1million price tag on highly-rated Kenyan defender Joash Onyango in the hopes of ending the interest of South Africa’s Orlando Pirates.

The Harambee Stars centre-back has been a key man in Simba’s impressive CAF Champions League showing, which sees Wekundu wa Msimbazi as one of the seeded teams for next Friday’s quarterfinal draw.

Simba’s communications officer, Haji Manara, has been quoted by Nation as claiming that the Tanzanian club will only accept a king’s ransom if they are to sell Onyango.

“I want to reveal a secret. Orlando Pirates asked me if they want Onyango how much we will accept. I told them it can’t be below one million dollars. He has been named the best centre back in the CAF Champions League squad,” said Manara on Wasafi TV earlier this month.

The 28-year-old defender, who was recently named the club’s fans Player of the Month of March, said he has not received any communication from the South African giants.

“I don’t have any information on Orlando Pirates’ interest. I have not been contacted but if it happened through the club then I have also not been informed,” said Onyango, who joined Simba in August 2020 on a free transfer from Gor Mahia.
