Riyad Mahrez emerged as the hero on the night as Manchester City claimed a 2-1 comeback win over Paris Saint-Germain in the French capital on Wednesday.
The Algerian winger fired home the winner after Kevin de Bruyne had cancelled out Marquinhos’ opener to put the Cityzens in control ahead of the Uefa Champions League semi final second-leg at Etihad Stadium next week.
His free-kick goal was strikingly similar to the one he scored for Algeria in their semi final win over Nigeria at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations and Mahrez will be hoping that serves as a good omen.
The 30-year-old went on the lead the Desert Foxes to the title in Egypt with victory over Senegal in the final.
Idrissa Gana Gueye, who formed part of the Teranga Lions side that lost in that final, was sent off in Paris on Wednesday for a terrible tackle on Ilkay Gundogan and will miss the second leg as a result.
