Algeria captain Riyad Mahrez says his winning goal for Manchester City against Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) was a miss-hit on Wednesday night.

The English giants emerged 2-1 winners over French champions PSG in the UEFA Champions League semi-final first-leg match at Parc des Princes in Paris, France.

Mahrez curled home a free-kick that went through the PSG wall to hand City the victory and the winger has now reflected on the match.

“I wanted to go around the wall to be honest and I missed it, it went between the two players and fortunately it was in,” Mahrez said on the club’s official Twitter page.

“I was so happy, I knew we could win here and to score to make it 2-1 for the team was amazing.”

Mahrez also disclosed that his City team-mate Benjamin Mendy had predicted that the 2016 CAF Footballer of the Year would score the winner against PSG.

“It’s all because of Ben. He asked God and God gave me this goal,” he added.

The two teams will meet in the second-leg game at the Etihad Stadium on May 4 and the winner on aggregate will face either England’s Chelsea or Spanish giants Real Madrid in the final.

Mahrez is hoping to win the Champions League title for the first time in his career having enjoyed a lot of success in England.

He has won two Premier League titles, three English Cups and one FA Cup.
