AmaZulu climb to the top of the DStv Premiership standings

AmaZulu climbed to the top of the 2020-21 DStv Premiership standings on Saturday.

Usuthu defeated KwaZulu-Natal rivals Golden Arrows 1-0 at the Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium. A solitary strike from Luvuyo Memela moved AmaZulu two points clear of second-placed Mamelodi Sundowns who are away to Orlando Pirates on Sunday.

Benni McCarthy’s men are now unbeaten in 16 league matches.

Kaizer Chiefs squandered a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 with Bloemfontein Celtic at Dr Petrus Molemela Stadium.

Goals from Happy Mashiane and Erick Mathoho fired the Amakhosi into an early lead but Siwelele hit back through Neo Maema and Victor Letsoalo to earn a point.

Elsewhere, Chippa United further boosted their survival hopes with a 1-0 win over Stellenbosch FC at Sisa Dukashe Stadium. Kurt Lentjies scored the only goal of the game as the Chilli Boys subsequently dragged Stellies in the relegation fight.

TS Galaxy cemented their occupation of eighth spot with a 1-0 win over Cape Town City at Mbombela Stadium. Mxolisi Macuphu was the man on target for the Rockets.

SuperSport United are now winless in 10 matches following a 1-1 draw with Baroka FC. Matsatsantsa looked on course for a much needed win at Lucas Moripe Stadium but Richard Mbulu cancelled out Kudakwashe Mahachi’s early goal.

Black Leopards came from behind to defeat Limpopo rivals Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila 2-1 at Peter Mokaba Stadium.

Lidoda Duvha remain in 16th spot on the league standings, but they are now just four points behind 15th placed Vhadau Vha Damani, as the battle to avoid relegation continues.

Alfred Ndengane opened the scoring from the penalty spot for TTM before goals from Roderick Kabwe and Sanele Mathenjwa for the visitors.
