Moroccan star Hakim Ziyech is being played out of position at English giants Chelsea according to French legend Frank Lebouef.

Ziyech, who officially joined the Blues from Dutch champions Ajax Amsterdam in July, 2020, has failed to live up to expectations at Chelsea thus far.

The left-footed playmaker has scored once and registered three assists from 20 Premier League games.

Lebouef, who played for Chelsea between 1996 and 2001, doesn’t understand why the current Blues manager Tuchel is deploying Ziyech through the middle.

“I’m concerned about Hakim Ziyech,” Leboeuf told ESPN.

“If he plays, why doesn’t he [Tuchel] put him on the right? “I saw him today very frustrated when he came off after playing like a number 10.”

Lebouef believes Ziyech should be hugging the right touchline in the same way Algeria captain Riyad Mahrez does at Manchester City.

“I don’t think that’s his real position. “Tuchel really has to think that Ziyech has to play on the right side. It’s like [Riyad] Mahrez, he’s a copy-cat of Mahrez,” he added.

“I don’t see [Pep] Guardiola putting Mahrez in another position than on the right side.”

However, Ziyech has done well for Morocco this season having netted once and registered two assists from three games in the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The 28-year-old has scored 17 goals from 39 international matches since he made his debut for Morocco in 2015.
