Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is delighted to be back amongst the goals.
The Gabon international found the back of the net for the first time since recovering from malaria as the Gunners beat Newcastle United 2-0 in the Premier League on Sunday.
The 31-year-old contracted malaria while on international duty in March and spent time in hospital.
Aubameyang found the back of the net following Egyptian midfielder Mohamed Elneny’s first Premier League goal to earn the north London club a morale-boosting win, before Thursday’s Europa League semi final second-leg at home to Villarreal at Emirates Stadium. Arsenal lost the first-leg 2-1 in Spain.
“I was really happy to be back first and scoring a goal,” said Aubameyang.
“When you are out for a few weeks you realise how good it is to be back on the pitch.
“At the end for the last five minutes, I was dying a little bit. But to tell the truth, I felt good the whole game so I was really happy with that.
“I have to say that the doctors did incredible work with me … I’m really thankful for them.”
Aubameyang has now scored 15 goals in 35 appearances for Arsenal across all competitions this season.
