The South African Football Association (SAFA) have named Belgian Hugo Broos as the new coach of Bafana Bafana.
The 69-year-old Belgian is set to sign a five-year contract and succeeds Molefi Ntseki, who was axed from the post after South Africa’s failure to qualify for next year’s Africa Cup of Nations.
Broos has an extensive coaching career that spans more than three decades, including spells in charge of Belgian giants Club Brugge, R.S.C Anderlecht as well as K.R.C Genk.
His experience on the African continent includes time with Algerian sides JS Kabylie and NA Hussein Dey, while he famously led Cameroon to AFCON glory in 2017.
His last post was as a sporting director at Belgian club K.V. Oostende.
The new coach’s first assignment in charge will arrive in just over a month’s time when Bafana Bafana open their group stage of their 2022 World Cup qualifying campaign with matches against Zimbabwe (away) and Ghana (home).
