Two matches in South Africa’s DStv Premiership on Tuesday 11 May saw AmaZulu’s red-hot run come to an abrupt end, while strugglers Stellenbosch had their winless drought extended to bring them ever closer to danger.

AmaZulu, after a searing run of 16 games unbeaten, suffered a first league loss since January when they were beaten 1-0 at the King Zwelithini Stadium by visitors Baroka FC – with Richard Mbulu scoring the only goal of the game.

The result means league leaders Mamelodi Sundowns need only win one of their final four matches of the season to clinch an unprecedented fourth straight league title, while Bakgaga have all but ensured survival after opening an eight-point buffer to the relegation playoff spot.

At the Danie Craven Stadium, Stellenbosch had their winless run move to nine league matches after they held Orlando Pirates 0-0. The Maroons spurned several glaring chances – especially in the first half – and should see the result as two points dropped rather than one gained.

Stellies remain in 12th place on the log, just two points clear of the relegation playoff spot and with all four of the teams below then having at least one game in hand. The Buccaneers, meanwhile, missed out on the chance to go third on the table, staying in P4 after a 10th draw of the season.

The DStv Premiership will continue with five matches across the country on Wednesday 12 May, headlined by a Soweto derby between Kaizer Chiefs and Swallows FC.

AmaZulu 0-1 Baroka FC
