Swallows FC set a Premier Soccer League (PSL) record of 18 draws in a league season when they were held 0-0 by Stellenbosch FC in one of three 2020-21 DStv Premiership matches on Tuesday.
The Dube Birds have impressed on their return to South Africa’s top-flight, but now have an unwanted record which has hampered their chances of a top four finish
A point at Dobsonville Stadium in Soweto proved vital for Stellies who are now two points clear of Chippa United in the relegation playoff spot.
The Chilli Boys opened the scoring at Sisa Dukashe Stadium in Mdantsane through a thumping Mduduzi Sibeko strike, but second-half goals from Neo Maema and Ndumiso Mabena earned Bloemfontein Celtic a 2-1 win.
Victory, a first on their travels since January last year, all but confirms Celtic’s top-flight status for another season. Siwelele moved up to 10th spot following the win, six points clear of Chippa in 15th.
Elsewhere, Baroka FC held Limpopo rivals Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila to a 0-0 draw at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.
The result moved TTM up to 12th on the league standings and four move points clear of the relegation play-off spot. A point was enough for Bakgaga to climb back into the top eight.
Vhadau Vha Damani created the best of the chances throughout the course of the match but Oscarine Masuluke stood firm in the Baroka goal.
