Simba SC coach Didier Gomes Da Rosa and captain John Bocco have spoken with optimism ahead of the second leg of their CAF Champions League quarterfinal against Kaizer Chiefs.
The Tanzanian side will host their South African counterparts at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam on Saturday afternoon.
The first leg saw Chiefs rack up an emphatic 4-0 home win at FNB Stadium in Soweto, with goals from Eric Mathoho, Samir Nurkovic (two) and Leonardo Castro.
Though it is the Amakhosi who appear to have one foot in the semifinals, Wekundu wa Msimbazi remain undeterred in their hope of staging what would be an incredible comeback.
“It is a big match, but we are looking forward to posting a win, from what I saw, all my players are ready for the encounter,” said Da Rosa, as quoted by IPP Media.
Captain Bocco echoed his coach’s sentiments: “It is going to be a very good game, but our goal is to get the victory at the sound of the final whistle and we are mentally and physically ready.
“The aim is to reach the semifinals, we urge all football lovers to pray for us to do well in the game.”
Simba are not to be underestimated in their own back yard: they are unbeaten in their last 15 home matches across all competitions, with the sequence including wins over the likes of Al Ahly (1-0), AS Vita (4-1), Al Merrikh (3-0) and FC Platinum (4-0) in this season’s Champions League.
The aggregate winners of this tie will advance to face either MC Alger or Wydad Casablanca in the final four.
