TP Mazembe and Zambia defender Kabaso Chongo says this June’s three away international dates are the perfect friendlies for Chipolopolo.
Kabaso is part of the 35-member team Chipolopolo coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic has summoned to face Senegal, Benin and Sudan during the FIFA international match window that will run from May 31 to June 15.
“The friendlies they have secured for us are very good. These are the friendly games that we wanted,” Kabaso told AF.
“I am very sure that they are going to challenge us as a team and they will be a good stepping stone for us before the 2022 Qatar FIFA World Cup qualifiers in September.
“People must not doubt the quality of the opponents; these are very high-level friendlies against solid and experienced teams.”
Chipolopolo will first play Senegal on June 5 in Thies and later visit Cotonou on June 8 to face Benin.
Sudan will be the last stop on June 11 when they will clash at Omdurman.
It will also be Chipolopolo’s first international outing following their AFCON qualifiers flop that Zambia ended on a good note with a 3-3 home draw with Algeria on March 25 and a 2-0 away win over Zimbabwe on March 29 who had both already qualified from Group H.
“We must continue with the same momentum that we produced in our final two AFCON qualifiers even though we didn’t make it but we need to continue building our confidence and also win back our fans faith before the World Cup qualifiers start,” Kabaso said.
Chipolopolo are in Group B in the Qatar qualifiers and will kick-off their campaign this September away to Mauritania before hosting Tunisia on match-day-two in Ndola.
Equatorial Guinea is the fourth team in Group B.
