Copper Queens Zambia coach Bruce Mwape would love to secure at least three high-profile friendlies for his girls before heading to the Tokyo Olympic Games in July.
Zambia will be making their Olympic Womens Football Competition debut during the tournament Japan will host from July 21 to August 6.
The Copper Queens are in Group F at the Olympics where they have been drawn against Brazil, China and 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup runners-up Holland.
“We would like to play as many games as possible although time is now limited but we are planning to play three international games especially against high-profile teams,” Mwape said at the end of Thursday morning training at National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka.
The team has been holding monthly residential training camps in Lusaka since late March.
Zambia have so far played one high-profile friendly against Banyana Banyana South Africa that they lost 3-1 on April 10 in Johannesburg.
The Copper Queens later played an All-Stars Versus The Rest exhibition match on April 24 in Lusaka that they won 4-1.
But the Copper Queens planned friendly against Mozambique that was scheduled for May 30 away in Maputo has been cancelled after their two-legged 2022 AFCON first round qualifier against Malawi was postponed to October.
