Zesco United’s century scorer Jesse Were is hoping they can put to rest all talk on the direction of the 2020/2021 FAZ Super League title this Sunday when they host relegation-fighting Napsa Stars at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.
Zesco are just two points away from their ninth league title if they garner an unassailable 63 points on June 13 with three games to spare.
The eight-time champions have 61 points from 30 games, eight points ahead of second placed Zanaco who have played 31 games.
“Everyone here is very focused because they know what is at stake. We won’t take this game lightly,” Were said.
Were is fully aware of how much of a nervy experience it has been for Zesco over the last five matches after picking up two wins and three defeats on this stretch.
Zesco and Napsa drew 1-1 in the first leg meeting in Lusaka on November 1, 2020.
Third from bottom Napsa also comes into the match battling to halt a five-match losing run with three games left for them to avoid the drop.
“Everyone will be coming into this game knowing that any slipups will be dangerous,” the Kenyan striker said.
“The other team is also thinking the same because they are in relegation. I am sure we will take this game very seriously.”
Meanwhile, Were is also hoping to add to a personal milestone at Zesco where he attained the 100th goal mark with the Ndola club on March 30 in a 4-0 home win over Kitwe United.
