On this day (11 June) in 2010, Siphiwe Tshabalala scored his iconic FIFA World Cup goal.
The AmaZulu midfielder kicked off the 2010 FIFA World Cup hosted in South Africa in style with a thumping finish.
After running onto a pin-point pass from Kagisho Dikgacoi, Tshabalala took one touch before firing an unstoppable left-footed shot into the corner of the net to send the Bafana Bafana fans inside FNB Stadium — and the rest scattered across South Africa — into absolute ecstasy.
It remains one of the most talked about goals in World Cup history and the 2010 showpiece will forever be synonymous with Shabba’s strike — the first goal scored at a World Cup hosted on African soil.
