Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) targets Ovie Ejaria and Ademola Lookman are yet to be cleared to play for the Super Eagles.
This is despite recent reports which indicated that the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) has cleared the duo to play for Nigeria.
Having both been born in London to parents of Nigerian descent, Lookman and Ejaria have played for England’s youth national teams.
Lookman and Ejaria are currently on the books of German side RB Leipzig and English club Reading FC respectively.
The NFF official has revealed that they are still working behind the scenes to process the nationality switch of Ejaria and Lookman.
“Fifa has not cleared the two players to play for Nigeria’,” Super Eagles chief scout Tunde Adelakun told allnigeriasoccer.com.
Lookman spent the 2020/21 season on loan at English side Fulham FC where he registered four goals and four assists in 34 Premier League games.
The 23-year-old forward is expected to return to Leipzig having signed a five-year deal when he joined the club from Everton FC in July 2019.
While Ejaria is one of the key players at Reading where the 23-year-old central midfielder was involved in eight goals from 38 matches in the English Championship in the 2020/21 season.
Both players were part of the England squad which won the 2017 FIFA Under-20 World Cup in South Korea.
