Chipolopolo Zambia breathed a sigh of relief on Sunday night after finally picking up a victory on the June four-match friendly tour following a 1-0 away victory over Sudan at Omdurman.
The victory comes after two losses and one draw in their opening three games.
Chipolopolo’s win also saw them avenge Friday’s 3-2 loss in the first game against Sudan played at the same venue.
And for the first time on the tour, Zambia went into the break with a clean sheet and ultimately in the whole game for that matter.
However, it was Sudan who were the busier of the two sides in the first period and in the 23rd minute Malik Seifeldin sent his shot from outside the box high and over.
Three minutes later, Hamed Yasin’s shot from the edge of the box was saved by Gregory Sianjase who was making his first start on the tour.
Sudan then had one more chance before the break in the 29th minute through Abdallah Aboaagba but his volley came off the beam.
Zambia’s best chance of that half was an ambitious punt from defender Isaac Shamujompa that he pumped from just inside Zambia’s area that Sudan goalkeeper Mustafa Mohamed easily collected.
Then Zambia had a great spell after the restart heading into the hour mark that started with Power Dynamos midfielder Spencer Sautu in the 61st minute but sent his sent low shot across the face of goal.
Two minutes later, Shamujompa was beaten to the ball on the goal line by Mohamed from a corner.
But the deadlock was broken in the 88th minute in rather dramatic fashion through Green Eagles midfielder Amity Shamende who just two minutes earlier had just replaced Buildcon striker Brian Mwila.
Shamende dispatched a cross into the box from the right wing but the ball had other ideas when it flew over Mohamed and then took a sudden right turn hitting the far post and into the back of the net and in doing so ended Chipolopolo’s winless run.
Meanwhile, Zambia began the tour with a 3-1 away loss to Senegal on June5, then drew 2-2 with Benin in Cotonou and later lost on June 11 to Sudan.
