South Africa under-23 head coach David Notoane says Ramadan Sobhi can be Mohamed Salah’s successor in the Egyptian senior national team.
Sobhi was part of the Egypt under-23 side which recently defeated their South African counterparts in two international friendly matches in Egypt.
The two teams used the matches as preparation for the 2020 Olympic Games football tournament that will take place in Japan between July 21 and August 7.
Notoane compared Sobhi, who is on the books of Egyptian side Pyramids FC, to fellow forward Salah of English giants Liverpool FC.
“I believe Ramadan Sobhi is a suitable replacement for Mohamed Salah in the Egypt national team,” Notoane said on King Fut.
“He’s very skillful, I hope to have a player like him as he’s able to score at any moment. If Egypt is looking to win the gold medal, Ramadan Sobhi is the one who is able to achieve this.
“Player No. 5 [meanin Ammar Hamdi] he’s a great passer, he caused us big problems and gave excellent passes to Ramadan Sobhi,” he added.
Egypt U23 recorded 2-0 and 3-0 wins over South Africa U23 in their two friendly matches.
Sobhi, 24, played for Stoke City and Huddersfield Town in the English Premier League and he has scored once in 28 games for Egypt’s senior national team.
