Nkana stole a stoppage time equalizer against hosts Zanaco on Wednesday away at Sunset Stadium in Lusaka to keep their slender hopes of FAZ Super League survival alive.
The outgoing FAZ Super League champions Nkana held second place Zanaco 1-1.
Nkana’s draw came four days after 12th positioned Young Green Eagles beat them 3-2 away in Kafue to end a promising three-match winning run.
Meanwhile, the match at Sunset actually came alive in the last four minutes of the game when Zanaco took the lead in the 88th minute through their Cameroonian striker Baba Basile who headed-in Evans Katema’s long cross from the left wing into the box.
Basile scored with his first touch of the ball just two minutes after he replaced Abraham Siankombo.
But a minute into stoppage time, Nkana striker Alex Ngonga equalized to secure a vital away point for the ailing record twelve-time Zambian champions.
Ngonga stomped-in a cheeky back-heel with the base of boot as the imposing frame of Zanaco defender Joel Kadjob hovered over him.
The draw leaves Zanaco needing an outright win in their penultimate game this Sunday away to seventh placed Prison Leopards to cement the runners-up spot and qualify for the 2021/2022 CAF Champions League.
Zanaco have 54 points, five points ahead of third placed Red Arrows with two games each left to play.
Nkana stay put at number 15 on 38 points with nine points to play for in a tight relegation battle in the bottom six of the log.
