Senegal international Demba Ba has secured a move to Swiss Super League club FC Lugano after leaving Turkish side Istanbul Basaksehir.
The towering centre forward has joined the former Swiss champions on a one-year deal ahead of the 2021/22 campaign.
Ba has been a free agent since he left Basaksehir because of his lack of playing time in the recent 2020/21 season as he played 17 Super Lig matches and netted five goals.
Lugano released the following statement on their official website as they announced the arrival of the former Chelsea FC star:
“FC Lugano is happy to announce the signing of the player Demba Ba until 30/06/2022,” the club announced.
“The 36-year-old, born in France, played in the top European leagues, wearing the jerseys of FC Rouen 1899, Excelsior Mouscron, TSG 1899 Hoffenheim, West Ham United, Newcastle United, Chelsea FC, Besiktas JK, Shanghai Shenhua and Goztepe.”
Ba has joined Nigeria goalkeeper Sebastian Osigwe at Lugano, who have won the Swiss Super League title three times.
Born and raised in France by parents of Senegalese descent, Ba has been a full international for Senegal since 2007 and represented the country at the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations.
Ba has played a total of 17 games and scored four goals for Senegal.
