Both Al Ahly and Kaizer Chiefs claimed vital 1-0 away wins in the first-leg of their 2020/21 CAF Champions League semifinal matches on Saturday.
Al Ahly, who won a record-extending ninth Champions League crown last year, beat Esperance de Tunis in Rades to take a massive step towards another final appearance in Africa’s premier club competition.
Mohamed Sherif netted the match winner for Pitso Mosimane’s troops in Tunisia after being superbly set up by Aliou Dieng.
Samir Nurkovic scored with Chiefs’ only shot on target as they claimed a narrow win over Wydad Casablanca at Stade Mohammed V in Morocco.
The Amakhosi put in a gallant defensive display in a game in which the hosts dominated possession and will carry a huge advantage into the second-leg on home soil as a result.
Watch highlights from both first-leg semifinal matches below.
The second-leg fixtures are set to take place at Al Salam and FNB Stadium in Cairo and Soweto respectively next Saturday, 26 June.
