Raja Casablanca and Pyramids FC drew 0-0 in the CAF Confederation Cup semi-final first-leg match at the 30 June Stadium in Cairo on Sunday night.
The two teams are scheduled to clash in the second-leg encounter at the Stade Mohamed V in Casablanca on June 27.
Moroccan giants Raja started the match brightly and they threatened first through Soufine Rahimi after the Egyptian side Pyramids’ defence was exposed 10 minutes into the game.
The 25-year-old attacker pounced onto a loose ball on the edge of the box and he unleashed a shot that was well-saved by goalkeeper Ahmed El Shenawy.
The visitors were controlling the match and they had another chance to break the deadlock from inside the box six minutes before the half-hour mark.
Rahimi received a good pass from Fabrice Ngoma, but he miscued his shot and El Shenawy made an easy save and the score was 0-0 at half-time with Pyramids having contained Raja.
Pyramids defended very well after the restart with Ahmed Samy containing Raja’s goalscoring machine Ben Malango, who came into the game having five goals in this season’s tournament
Lassaad Chebbi, the Raja head coach, decided to introduce an attack-minded duo of Abdelilah Hafidi and Mohsine Moutaouali on the hour-mark.
The best chances of the game continue to fell for Rahimi and his effort beat Al Shenawy in the 68th minute, but he was denied by a crucial goal-line clearance.
The hosts pushed forward in the closing stages and Ramadan Sobhi should have grabbed Pyramids’ late winning goal, but he failed to keep his free header on target, and the game ended in a 0-0 draw.
