Ex-Zambia Under-17 national team coach Chris Kaunda believes Chipolopolo striker Patson Daka is going places following confirmation of his move to English Premiership club Leicester City.
Daka, 22 will this week conclude a reportedly £23 million transfer from Austrian champions RB Salzburg to the 2015/2016 English champions.
“It is a very good move in my opinion and he will succeed there because I have known Patson to be a good listener and a good learner,” Kaunda said.
Patson was part of Kaunda’s Zambia Under-17 team that made history six years ago as the first Junior Chipolopolo team to qualify for an AFCON U17 in 2015 where they made a group stage exit in Niger.
The core of the same team ,that included Patson’s RB Salzburg club mate and midfielder Enock Mwepu, eventually won the 2017 AFCON U20 as hosts.
“I believe he is still moving up, better things are coming for him,” Kaunda said.
“I don’t see him staying at Leicester for more than two seasons and moving there is a good entry point.
“He made a wise move to go to a club where he believes he will get game time and not a club where there is massive pressure on the coach to win the league.”
Patson scored 34 competitive goals for RB Salzburg in the just ended campaign with 27 of them coming in the league that helped them retain the Austrian Bundesliga for an eighth successive time.
Leicester snapped up Daka following reported summer interest from their Premiership rivals Liverpool, West Ham and Chelsea.
