Chipolopolo coach Milutin ‘Micho” Sredojevic has described Patson Daka’s move to Leicester City a huge stepping stone for the striker and Zambian football.
Daka, 22 has joined the 2015/2016 English champions on a five-year deal from Austrian Bundesliga champions RB Salzburg where he finished on 34 competitive goals last season.
Micho said Zambians now have an opportunity to watch their own in the English Premiership after recently following with envy the exploits of Tanzanian Mbwana Samatta and Denver Nakamba Zimbabwean at Aston Villa including Bafana Bafana forward Percy Tau at Brighton & Hove Albion.
“For him to rightly choose Leicester as a team, I personally believe he has taken the right step in the right direction in order to up his career from where he has been to a new level,” Micho told FAZ TV.
“It is a stepping stone and I believe he is not just going to play an episode role in the English Premiership but also to stay there and make a significant stamp and put Zambia properly on the football map of the world because we know how English football followed.”
Daka will become the third Chipolopolo player to campaign in the English Premier age following the footsteps of Collins Mbesuma at Portsmouth from 2005 to 2006 and Emmanuel Mayuka at Southampton from 2013 to 2015.
But Chipolopolo will now have two players in high-profile British clubs next season with the other being Fashion Sakala who is just north of the border at Scottish champions Glasgow Rangers following the strikers’ own summer move from Belgian club KV Oostende.
Daka and Sakala were 2017 AFCON U20 teammates on home soil.
