Moroccan star Younes Belhanda has decided to return to the Turkish Super Lig four months after leaving Galatasary SK.
The experienced attacking midfielder has joined newly-promoted Super Lig club Adana Demirspor on a three-year deal.
The club released the following statement on Wednesday as the Blue Lightnings beefed up their squad ahead of the 2021/22 season.
“Our club has signed a 3-year agreement with Younes Belhanda,” a club statement read.
Belhanda has been clubless since March 2021 after his contract with Galatasary was terminated by the Istanbul giants.
The 31-year-old was fired by the Lions for making statements that ‘damaged the image of the club’.
Belhanda criticized Galatasary’s management following the team’s 2-2 draw against Sivasspor in a Turkish Super Lig match in March this year.
The former Schalke 04 star had joined Galatasary from Ukrainian giants Dynamo Kiev in 2017 and he enjoyed some success with the Lions.
Belhanda, who was born in France to parents of Moroccan descent, helped clinch two Turkish Super Lig titles, Turkish Cup and Super Cup with the Istanbul-based giants.
He has scored five goals in 58 international matches for Morocco.
