Ghanaian star Thomas Partey says good preparations will be key for the Black Stars to win the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations title.

The Black Stars are one of the most successful teams in the history of the AFCON having won it four times.

However, their last victory coming far back in 1982 as they beat Libya on penalty kicks 7-6 after a 1−1 draw in the final.

“The expectation starts from our good preparations,” Partey, who is on the books of English giants Arsenal FC, told Footballghana.

“We have to start preparing now, we have to go from one game to another.”

The Black Stars have been able to reach the final in 2010 and 2015, but they lost to Egypt and Ivory Coast respectively.

“First we have to prepare for the Africa Cup and make sure we have to win our friendly games before the Africa Cup starts,” the central midfielder continued.

“So there, we will be able to build our confidence and through hard work, for sure, everything is possible, so I think they [fans] have to relax, they have to be calm and keep supporting us.”

Ghana failed to reach the quarter-finals for the first time since 2006 after a Round of 16 defeat to Tunisia in the 2019 AFCON finals in Egypt.

Partey has played 32 international games for Ghana and scored 10 goals in the process.
