Uganda head coach Morley Byekwaso has expressed his satisfaction at holding Saudi Arabia to a 0-0 draw in a friendly international played at the Prince Faisal Bin Abdulaziz Stadium in Riyadh city on Friday evening.

According to the Uganda FA’s official website: “It was a game where both teams exhibited quality defensively in the tactical organisation, as many scoring opportunities were foiled.”

Byekwaso fielded a young, locally-based and inexperienced team, with goalkeeper Charles Lukwago the only player with a significant amount of caps under his belt.

The coach was happy with his team’s effort in stifling heat: “We thank God that the match was well played and no injuries [were sustained].

“I thank the players who endured the high temperatures to soldier on. We are now heading for the second build up [match] as we continue to prepare for the CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup. We shall put several grey areas right.”

Uganda will face Saudi Arabia in another friendly match in Riyadh on Monday 5 July.
