On this day in 2019, South Africa claimed a famous win over Egypt at the Africa Cup of Nations.
The Pharaohs were overwhelming favourites heading into their last-16 match staged at Cairo International Stadium but against all odds, the visitors came up trumps thanks to an 85th minute winner from Thembinkosi Lorch.
Unsurprisingly, Javier Aguirre was sacked shortly after Egypt’s exit from the competition on home soil while Bafana Bafana fell in the next round at the hands of fierce rivals Nigeria.
In the end, Algeria would be crowned champions of Africa with a 1-0 win over Senegal in the final.
