Nigeria international Paul Onuachu is not certain to leave Belgian club KRC Genk, according to manager John van den Brom.

The towering centre forward is coming off his best season in Europe having scooped the Belgian Pro League Golden Boot and Pro League Player of the Year awards as well as the Ebony Shoe.

His exploits have reportedly attracted interest from English Premier League clubs West Ham United and Brighton & Hove.

Onuachu’s Genk teammate Jhon Lucumi, who is a Colombia international, is also being hunted by European clubs.

However, Van Den Brom is keen to retain his key players ahead of the new 2021/22 campaign which is expected to start next month.

“I hope that we will still be without leavers on September 1. It would be very nice if we could keep this core together,” Van den Brom was quoted by Voetbalnieuws.

“It is not certain that Lucumi and Onuachu will definitely leave, but for the time being they are still at Genk. ”

“They are the two players we said are likely to leave, but that doesn’t mean they’re leaving the club anyway.”

Onuachu, 27, has impressively netted 45 goals in 69 competitive matches for Genk since he joined the club from Danish side FC Midtjylland in July 2019.

He has also hit the back of the net three times in 13 internationals for the Super Eagles.
