Ghanaian star Christian Atsu has completed a move to Saudi Arabian outfit Al Raed on a free transfer.
The 29-year-old winger has been a free agent since he parted ways with English Premier League club Newcastle United after his contract expired at the end of last month.
Atsu has now signed a two-year deal with Al Raed, who are campaigning in Saudi Arabia’s top-flight league, Pro League.
The left-footed player took to his official Twitter account to express his happiness after completing his move to the Asian club.
“Peace be upon to all Al Raed club fans! I thank the president of Al Raed club Mr. Fahd Al-Mutawa and everyone involved at the club,” Atsu wrote.
“I am happy to be a player of this great club! For the fans, I promise to give everything I am looking forward to this new chapter.”
The diminutive player began his career with FC Porto, also spending a season (2011/12) on loan at fellow Portuguese club Rio Ave.
In 2013, he was signed by English giants Chelsea for £3.5 million, who subsequently loaned him to Dutch side Vitesse Arnhem, Spanish outfit Malaga and English clubs Everton and AFC Bournemouth.
After spending the 2016/17 season on loan at Newcastle, Atsu completed a permanent transfer to the club in May 2017.
He has played 65 international matches for Ghana and scored nine goals.
