Simba SC will look to seal a domestic double when they face rivals Young Africans in the Tanzanian Azam Federation Cup [FA Cup] final on Sunday 25 July.
Fresh from taking the Mainland Premier League title ahead of Yanga – Simba finished nine points clear of their arch rivals – Wekundu wa Msimbazi will now look to add the Cup to their collection of trophies with a clash at the Lake Tanganyika Stadium in Kigoma.
The bad news for Simba is that they have struggled against Yanga in the past two seasons, failing to win any of the teams’ four league clashes in 2019-20 and 2020-21.
Yet this has not bothered Simba star John Bocco, who clinched the Golden Boot for the Mainland Premier League by netting 16 goals through the campaign.
“Our focus is now on the Azam Federation Cup match to be held in Kigoma. It is a very important match for the club leaders, the players, club members and the fans. We need to win and clinch the title again,” said Bocco, as quoted by The Citizen.
Simba won the Cup last season after defeating Namungo FC 2-1 in the final.
After overcoming Azam FC in the semis this season, Simba coach Didier Gomes Da Rosa was fully confident in his team’s ability to go on and claim the trophy.
“You cannot compare Azam and Yanga, Azam is a very tough team but their profile is very different of Yanga, these are two very good teams but like I already said, I think that Simba this year is a very strong team if we raise our commitment and keep this fighting spirit I don’t think we can be beaten,” he told Goal.
“But you never know in football, anything can happen but I am very confident with my team, they have shown me many good things, month and months [since I took over], and they are committed and they really want to win two trophies this year.”
