Senegalese star Idrissa Gueye is pleased to be passing his experience to youngsters at his French club Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in their pre-season friendly games.

The experienced central midfielder has led the Ligue 1 giants as captain in their last three matches with club captain Marquinhos currently on vacation after playing for Brazil at the 2021 Copa America.

Under Gueye’s captaincy, PSG secured a 4-0 win over French side Le Mans, before being held to a 2-2 draw by France’s Chambly, and the Parisians claimed a 2-1 win over Bundesliga club Augsburg.

“Obviously I am very happy, with these young people who respect us and are attentive,” Gueye told the club’s official website.

“It is important for me to pass on all the experience that I have accumulated during my career.

“Just the fact of transmitting them to the young people, the fact of being able to discuss with them, of showing them the sure example and off the field, it is just a pleasure for me.”

Gueye, who has been on the books of PSG since 2019, believes the team is on the right track with the new campaign set to start next month with the Trophee des Champions taking place.

“That was the goal, to gain momentum, to play 45 minutes the first game, a little more the second and today the coach decided to let me play the whole game,” he continued.

“It’s good for me to gain playing time. We continue the preparation and we hope to be on August 1st [for the champions trophy].”

Gueye and his PSG teammates will start the new season with a Trophee des Champions fixture against league champions Lille on August 1.

The 31-year-old has scored five goals in 78 international matches for Senegal.
