Senegalese left-back Fode Ballo-Toure has admitted that he will need to up his goal-scoring stats now that he has joined Italian giants AC Milan.
The 24-year-old signed for the Rossoneri from French Ligue 1 side Monaco on a five-year contract, and admits that chatting to club legend Paolo Maldini and manager Stefano Pioli sealed the deal.
“I am very happy to be here. At first, there was a contact between Paolo Maldini and my agent, I could not believe it until I arrived in Milan,” the left-back explained, as quoted by Tribal Football.
“Milan are a top club, I could not lose this opportunity, I will work a lot, I am here to improve. I am happy that Maldini trusted me, he is a point of reference for me.
“The first few days went well. I was well-received, I already knew Rafael Leao, but everyone welcomed me well,” he continued.
Ballo-Toure will compete with Theo Hernandez for a place in the starting XI. The Frenchman is considered one of the next attacking left-backs in the world, racking up seven goals and six assists in Serie A last season, with the Senegalese well aware that he will need to contribute more in the final third.
“I am slowly learning the language. Pioli told me what he expects from me and that I can count on him for anything I need,” he explained.
“I must score more goals, I will try to improve and score more goals as Theo does. I am here to develop, I can improve technically and tactically.
“I am happy to meet Mike Maignan again, we spent a few seasons together at Lille and PSG. He is like a brother to me.”
Ballo-Toure will hope to make his Serie A and Milan debut when the Rossoneri face Sampdoria away on August 23 in their season opener.
