Fashion Sakala on Sunday evening sparked Glasgow Rangers comeback at home with the equalizer in their 2-1 friendly win over Spanish giants and record 13-time European champions Real Madrid at Ibrox.

Sunday’s pre-season friendly was the Chipolopolo striker’s first start for his new club just 24 hours after making his non-competitive debut when he came on in the 62nd minute of Rangers 0-0 home draw against EPL club Brighton at the same venue.

Sakala joined Rangers this month on a four-year deal from Belgian club KV Oostende.

His goal came in the 55th minute when he raced into the box from halfway inside Real’s own area with the ball to beat goalkeeper Andriy Lunin.

The Chipolopolo striker had just collected a shot pass from the lively 46th minute substitute Glen Kamara who had just dispossessed Blanco.

Meanwhile, Sakala had two great chances just five minutes before he scored.

His first was a tame shot in the 51st minute that Lunin confidently swept away with his right foot.

He then failed to connect with Kamara’s cross in the 53rd minute from the right wing before making no mistake two minutes later.

Sakala, though, was substituted on the hour-mark to cheers in the stands, impressed with what they had just witnessed while hugs followed from the bench plus a quick word from coach Steven Gerrard as he took his place on the bench.

The match was Rangers final pre-season friendly and they now turn their attention to the business of defending their Scottish Premier League crown starting on July 31 against visiting Livingston.
