Kabwe Warriors have settled on ex-Nkana Manfred Chabinga for the vacant head coach job.
Chabinga beat off competition from favourite and ex-Chipolopolo Zambia coach Honour Janza who had a previous stint at Warriors as technical advisor in 2008.
He returns to coaching after he was sacked by Nkana over Christmas last season following a poor start to the campaign just after he had guided the Kitwe giants to the 2019/2020 FAZ Super League title.
Chabinga arrives at Warriors to oversee the five-time league champions return to continental action for the first time since 1993.
Warriors will participate in the 2021/2022 CAF Confederation Cup together with third place league finishers Red Arrows.
“The duration of the contract is one season,” said Warriors Chief Executive Officer Charles Chakatazya.
“The first target is to reach the group stage. After the group stage, we will set another target.”
Chabinga replaces Levy Chabala who was sidelined in April that saw assistant coach Ian Bakala put in interim charge to steer Warriors to a fourth place finish that sealed the final CAF Confederation Cup spot.
Bakala has reverted to his role as Warriors first assistant coach.
