Former Zamalek midfielder Ferjani Sassi has ended speculation over his future by signing for Qatari club Al-Duhail.
“The Club have completed the signing of Tunisian midfielder Ferjani Sassi for the next season on a free transfer,” read a club statement, as per Ahram Online.
The 29-year-old has been in dispute with Egyptian giants Zamalek after a disagreement over the end of his contract.
While the White Knights insist that Sassi’s contract runs to the end of the still ongoing Egyptian Premier League season, the player himself claimed the deal concluded at the end of May.
Sassi has not been attending Zamalek’s training sessions since the last international break in June, while the club has responded by lodging an official complaint with world football governing body FIFA.
Sassi, who has been a key figure for Zamalek since joining from Saudi Arabia’s Al Nassr in 2018, played 102 games with Zamalek, scoring 16 goals.
He won the Egypt Cup, CAF Confederation Cup, as well as the Egyptian and African Super Cups with the White Knights.
Sassi’s club career has also seen him represent CS Sfaxien, Metz and Esperance de Tunis, while his international career has encompassed three Africa Cup of Nations tournaments and the 2018 World Cup.
