Fashion Sakala is set to make his UEFA Champions League debut this Tuesday after making Glasgow Rangers’ travelling party to face Malmo in Sweden.
The 24-year-old Chipolopolo striker has yet to taste UEFA action heading into his third European stop since arriving on the continent via Russia at Spartak Moscow, where he spent two seasons from 2017 to 2018.
Sakala later spent four seasons at Belgian club KV Oostende before moving across the North Sea to Scotland this term.
The Zambia striker could stake a strong claim for a place in the starting XI in Sweden because Kemar Roofe will miss both legs of the Malmo tie due to suspension.
Interestingly, Roofe replaced Sakala on the latter’s league debut last Saturday in the 71st minute of Rangers’ 3-0 home win over Livingston.
Roofe came on for Sakala following a rather subdued display by the Zambian, who was not on target in that match, while the Jamaican went on to score the third goal in stoppage time for the Scottish champions.
Meanwhile, Rangers will host Malmo in the final leg on August 10 to decide who advances to the pre-group stage round to be played over two legs on August 17/18 and August 24/25.
Rangers are chasing their first UEFA Champions League group stage appearance since the 2010/2011 season.
