South African football legend Lucas Radebe has urged compatriot Percy Tau to remain with Premier League club Brighton & Hove Albion and fight for his place in the team.

Bafana Bafana attacker Tau scored his first goal for Brighton in a pre-season win over Luton Town this past weekend.

However, the 27-year-old has been linked with a return to Belgium, specifically Royal Antwerp, after struggling to win playing time with the Seagulls. He has been on the English side’s books since 2018, but has spent most of that time on loan in Belgium with Union SG, Club Brugge and Anderlecht.

Radebe, who enjoyed a fine career in the Premier League with Leeds United, firmly believes that Tau has the talent to thrive in the English top flight and has urged the player to stay in Brighton and fight.

I don’t think Percy must leave. I see no point in returning to Belgium because he’s been there before. He’s talented enough to play at Brighton. He must fight harder… show them he can do it,” Radebe is quoted by Sowetan Live.

Rhoo’ added, “That goal will build his confidence. He must never look back. This season must be the season he shows the world that he’s a great player.”

Meanwhile, Brighton manager Graham Potter praised Tau and Zambian Enock Mwepu for finding the net in the win over Luton.

I was really pleased for Enock to get off the mark,” the Seagulls boss told MyAlbionTV.

“I am disappointed in their goal, which was from an error, and that made the start of the second half a little bit more competitive.

“It is something we just have to accept and learn from, but in the end, our response was good and it was nice for Percy to score the third.

“There were lots of young players on the pitch getting minutes towards the end of the game. It was a really good afternoon for us.”
