Ghana international Gideon Mensah has been snapped up by one of the most successful French clubs, FC Girondins de Bordeaux.
The 23-year-old left-back has joined Bordeaux on a season-long loan from Austrian champions RB Salzburg with an option to buy until the end of the 2021–22 season.
The Girondins, who are six-time French Ligue 1 champions, released the following statement confirming Mensah’s arrival:
“FC Girondins de Bordeaux is pleased to announce the arrival of Gideon Mensah, on loan with option to purchase for the coming season,” a statement read on the club’s official website
“Talented left-back, RB Salzburg player in the Admiral Bundesliga (Austria), he was loaned to Vittoria Guimares last season. In Portugal, he made 22 appearances on the left side.
“The club welcomes him!”
This is Mensah’s fourth loan stint from Salzburg having spent some time with Austrian club Stumz Graz, Belgian outfit Zulte Waregem and Portugal’s Vitoria de Guimaraes.
“Gideon is a modern defender. He will bring us all his energy. He is a player who will please our supporters because he gives everything,” Bordeaux sporting director Admar Lopes said.
“Personally, I would also like to thank him for trusting us in this new project.”
Mensah has played four international matches for Ghana.
